Amherst Island Heritage House Tour September 27, 2014

Amherst Island was settled during the Loyalist Period and has pretty much remained unchanged since, so quite unique to those interested in Loyalist history, besides, its an island.

The ferry leaves on the half hour and can be most efficiently reached as follows...

West on 401 to exit 593 west of Kingston (Wilton Road)
Then south to Highway 33 (Loyalist Parkway)
Then a right turn (West) to the ferry dock

The return ferry fair is $9.00.

In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the United Empire Loyalists’ Association of Canada the Sir Guy Carleton Branch will conduct a tour of Beechwood Cemetery featuring the lives of some Loyalists and their descendants who are buried there.

It is the final resting place for over 75,000 Canadians, including our Canadian Forces Veterans, War Dead, RCMP members, Governors-General and Prime Ministers and our everyday Canadian heroes, our families and our loved ones. Beechwood is the home of the National Military Cemetery and the RCMP National Memorial Cemetery, and is a National Historic Site. In 2009, it was designated the National Cemetery of Canada by an Act of Parliament.
