On Friday evening, Johanna Smith, the Director General of the Services Branch at Library and Archives Canada (LAC) will talk about LAC’s direction under the new Librarian and Archivist of Canada, Guy Berthiaume, and provide an update on a range of LAC’s ongoing work of interest to genealogists, including the major project to digitize First World War records, collaboration with Ancestry.ca, and other initiatives that support family history research. Johanna also will talk about LAC’s work to renew its library database system, renovation of public spaces at 395 Wellington Street, new public exhibitions opening in Ottawa, and the work that LAC is doing in areas such as collection acquisition, preservation, access, and collaboration.
That will be followed by Janice Nickerson and the Pat Horan Memorial Lecture: Castlecomer to Montague: A Case Study in Irish Protestant Immigration to Upper Canada
